Merlin Trucks was formed in 1994 by Brother and sister Paul and Vicky Harrison. Paul who is still MD to this day, had previously worked for his Father Willie and Uncle Michael Harrison at Harbro Trucks and Wilfred Harrison Transport in Canklow, Rotherham which both were closed down in order for the dual carriageway to be built between Rotherham town centre and the M1 Motorway at J33.
Having been made redundant due to the compulsory purchase of the businesses and land, Paul along with his sister Vicky, under the guidance of their Father formed 2 new company’s, Merlin Trucks and Meadowhall Transport and rented premises on Meadowbank Road in Rotherham.
A building on the new site was quickly converted into a HGV Maintenance facility, inspection pits were dug and Roller shutter doors were positioned at the front of the building whilst a temporary parts shed was built towards the back of the garage and a snap cabin was erected under trailer floor boarding in another corner of the workshop.
Porta cabins along with porta loos were positioned outside, utilities were connected and the fledgling business was off the ground, all a little cobbled together but we were open for business.
A sister company, Meadowhall Transport occupied the same land and Merlin Trucks served as a Maintenance facility to the haulage business whilst also working for retail customers, operating a day and a night shift service to ensure that the wheels were kept turning on all the vehicles which passed through the garage.
Meanwhile, Paul was hard at work finding land to secure a permanent base for the 2 businesses and 18 months later, a new garage having been built on a 2 acre site along with offices, a proper rest room, toilets and parts department made from 2x40 foot containers, the business moved to the new premises where we still operate from today.
The company remains today, a family business with Paul’s son Bradley working alongside his father being committed to providing a personal service to customers, ensuring that they receive a first class experience whether it be for a scheduled inspection/service, routine maintenance, running defect repair or any mechanical repair.
The Maintenance facility is a 5 bay workshop with 3x full length inspection pits and 1x lifting ramp, we have diagnostic equipment, a digital roller brake tester, vehicle wash and welding equipment to ensure the reliability, safety and roadworthiness of your vehicle.
Our techs are all long time served at the company and work to a standard not less than expected by the DVSA.
